The Cars

The Cars

This is my pride and joy (aside from my girly and my bike)

Its a '93 Discovery, V8, Manual. I bought it about 3 years ago with 60,000 kms on the clock and not a single sign of offroad work. 3 years later I have added another 100,000 kms of my own and there is no way in the world I can cover up the beating she has had offroad.

I have made a few mods:

Bilstein shocks

Heavy Duty springs with 2 inch lift

 ARB bar and IPF lights

Stainless Exhaust system. Free-er flowing and sounds damn fine

Dual battery with low voltage cutout (Home made ..sort of) If you want to do this and save yourself some cash on the expensive Pirhana etc kits, get the Dick Smith low voltage cutout kit for $30. Very easy to build as long as you can solder badly (like I do) I bought the Solenoid from "Electronic Boat Parts" along with the battery cable (about $100), and got the biggest deep cycle battery that would fit in the mounting space from Coda Batteries ($200). If you exclude the cost of the battery the whole kits with bits and pieces comes to about $180 and took an afternoon to install and modify the Air intake (Angle Grinder to cut the tube down)

Tait UHF radio

Garmin GPS with Active antenna

I also have to say thanks to the folk at Graeme Cooper Automotive at Newtown for all the effort they spent ironing out all the problems the car was suffering from before I left for the desert.

This is the other Car that joined us in the desert and belongs to James.

Its a Hilux Dual cab, 2.8 diesel.

From the pic you can tell it aint standard. Pretty much everything has been touched or tweaked, from the lift  and travel of the suspension, to the handmade rollbar and side bars and tyre rack.

Fitted with a Cruiser rear end with Detroit locker (certainly helped during our desert crisis)

ARB bar and 8 Hella lights  (a portable sun actually)

UHF/HF

and waaaaaaaay too many things to list here.

This Series II TD5 belongs to my good friendTy. When it comes to thrashing a shiny new Discovery, Ty is your man.

The car is bog standard, but performs damn well. No doubt this car will soon see some aftermarket additions.

This recently purchased 80 series Cruiser belongs to Doug.

It runs on Petrol/LPG and is a good unit. A few mods early on include:

IPF Driving lights

GME Electrophone UHF Radio

Bull Bar and Baby seats : )
